PRESS: Sources: VK said preparing reboot of ICQ, corp messenger

MOSCOW, Mar 16 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company VK Group is preparing for the relaunch of two messengers, ICQ and a corporate service, business daily Vedomosti reported on Wednesday citing sources.

A person close to the company said that the ICQ reboot project was discussed at the company’s top management level at the beginning of the year.

An unnamed federal official told the daily that amid the sanctions against the country and suspension of work by a range of foreign companies, the ICQ project received a new impetus and was discussed with the country’s authorities.

The official said that at the beginning of March the discussions were not only about ICQ, but also the launch of its own corporate messenger by VK, which plans to kick off the both by June.

Another federal official said that VK plans to speed up the launch of its new messenger, not ICQ, but the one on the base of the already existing project MyTeams, which has been working since 2019.
